After a terribly long day and flight, we're finally back! Thanks to the Wongs for the pickup, they happened to sacrifice their sleep to pick us up while we waited for luggage that never arrived. We're looking forward to seeing all of you, and sharing with you all the funny stories we've manage to accummulate in only 2 weeks.

BTW, does anyone ever read this blog besides the current authors? If I don't see any more posts then I'll retire my thoughts to my personal blog.

Hello All,
It's us! Man, it seems like we've been here forever. We've never
seen so much stuff in so short time. I don't even think we'll
remember where we went when we return if it weren't for digital
photography. Anyways, we spent some time in beijing and xi'an, some
some interesting things that our people have created. You wonder
sometimes how much mankind can do if it's focused and dedicated on
something. Food seems really good around here. Not Beijing though,
either that or the tour guy sent us to unedible places.
We'll be heading to Shanghai soon, and back home shortly. We miss
all you cell group and can't wait to get back.. sigh! :)

Village yesterday and have seen what little our people still have

Hi Group! Technically this is my 2nD time writINg in this BLOggER thing. The first tIME I tried it..nothin' happened. Anyways..to be honest...I wouldn't be using this if Lon didn't tell me to scOPe out the pics first. I USed to be a constant emailer/chat person..but now I'm not. I guEss IF I really wanted to say something..I would probably choose the phone or even better..FAce to FAce--my personal preferences. Hope everyone had a good time last night, I sure did! I just posted some of the pictures below. My apologies to those who were somewhat injured during the fence hopping incident. As I watched some of the faces wincing in pain, I felt like a general sending my men out to die.

I read from Philippians 4 in my readings this morning and among many other powerful words, Paul says...

"Rejoice in the Lord Always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near."

I often hear of Christian's who are incredibly experiencing incredible blessing, and they follow it with 'but...' all the time. I'm not sure if it is becuase we don't want to get our hopes up, but I think what Paul is doing here is stating things for what they are, and not to take away from what God has richly blessed us with. I rejoice because I know God is moving and shaping our group! Rejoice because He is so very good!

Unreasonable Love

God spoke to me in this excerpt from "My Utmost" today...
The first thing God does is remove any insincerity, pride, and vanity from my life. And the Holy Spirit reveals to me that God loved me not because I was lovable, but because it was in His nature to do so. Now He commands me to show the same love to others by saying “…love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12). He is saying, “I will bring a number of people around you whom you cannot respect, but you must exhibit My love to them, just as I have exhibited it to you.”

This kind of love is not a patronizing love for the unlovable –it is His love, and it will not be evidenced in us overnight. Some of us may have tried to force it, but we were soon tired and frustrated…. Neither natural love nor God’s divine love will remain and grow in me unless it is nurtured. Love is spontaneous, but it has to be maintained through discipline.
It's crazy how I find I need to be reminded to love people, especially those who aren't easily loved. Yet it was this same unreasonable love that captured me when the creator of the universe broke into my life. God found me in the gutters of life, self-absorbed and aimless, and somehow as Paul says in the Bible, "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8) It's so easy to lose sight of this and get wrapped up in the non-essentials of life - we reject the call of God to love others - and we wonder why His voice quietly seems to fade from our lives.

I find it so interesting that while we as humans spend our lives trying to fill ourselves only to find ourselves empty, Jesus emptied himself and lived the fullest life possible. I pray that all of us this week have the opportunity to give ourselves to those the world sees as unlovable.

Cool, we're starting to see some posts here. That's awesome Jason. I think all of us could move into being more active in many of the things we just discuss. Even more awesome if we can do it together in unity as a small group. I'm actually already very encouraged that our small group regularly helps out at Yonge Street Mission (I know with little help from me so far), participate in church community events together, and even joined in on the city wide clean up event. I hope we as a group can continue growing in this area and really impact the community around us. There's just so much we've been blessed with whenever i stop thinking about acquiring and gaining... On the topic of google, I thought this link was interesting as it mentions how people are selling gmail accounts now on ebay for profit, and this guy decided to give it away to the highest donator to an AIDs cause instead. I hope we as a community following after Christ can be just as creative in sacrifically giving and in doing so we might touch the world around us with the love of God.

I was on this walmart site wondering what can be done about labor issues, and the whole notion of how can us as Christians be responsible in the coorporate world and not let these sort of things result from the natural tendencies of growth/revenue/market share. Case in point, google. We love it, we wish we invented it, and now we wish to own it. But can commandment number 6 "You can make money without doing evil." resist the pressures of shareholder greed when it goes public? Just because the common user might agree with it, would you buy a share and continue to uphold these values?

Well I don't specifically believe the verse above refers to praying exclusively, it is important to let our voice be heard as one body. Not in terms of criticism, or philosophical arguments of discussion, but in terms of action and ways that actually make a difference. Sign a petition, vote, share with others how they can help one another, there are plenty of ways!

this is fabulous! last night was amazzzzing...thanks for everything...
i really enjoyed incorporating worship into it..sorry i was late though,
i never really explained why....i intended to go straight from work at 530pm...but
i was trying to print off my handouts for friday's presentation
off on the computer and was having some trouble i worked on it from 1600-1900.
and for some reason it took me a little longer to get to da meeting place, and i had to stop for
gas along the way, but i was also looking for 'cheaper' gas, and when i finally
got some, there was a huge traffic jam just outside of ikea, so i rammed my
way down yorkmills and somehow made it in a round about way....but felt really rushed and bad that
i wasn't faithful in meeting on time and on top of it all, i made my hubbie worried.
so, sorry everyone for being late... i felt like sherrie in this book i've just picked up..
her life is a whilrlwind, and its mostly her fault for not being able to set boundaries for herself
i feel like that all the time...thanks for loving me still while i try to get my life under control...
